Hazel

Hazel is one of the sweetest and sassiest goats at our sanctuary. She arrived as a tiny three-week-old orphan after her mother unexpectedly passed away. When she came to the sanctuary, Hazel was fragile, covered in lice, and had painful sores on her legs and tail from caked-on waste — but she was also full of life, personality, and just enough main-character energy to make it very clear she was meant to be loved.

Hazel was originally welcomed as a companion for Silverado, a special-needs baby goat with a neurological condition, and their bond quickly became one of the sanctuary’s sweetest stories. Silverado adored her from the start, even famously offering her a tiny yellow flower in one of the most precious little goat-romance moments the sanctuary has ever seen.

After Silverado’s passing, Hazel continued to grow into a gentle comfort buddy for other special-needs babies, including Roman, Whiskey, Tango, and Jenny. Today, she is thriving in the Specials Pen, where she balances her role as a loyal companion with her duties as chaos supervisor and self-appointed rooftop queen. Whether she’s snuggled up with Lucky, judging the world from the shelter roof, or enjoying fresh honeysuckle with her friends, Hazel is a beautiful reminder that healing can turn even the most fragile beginnings into a life full of love, sass, and purpose.
