Out in the Community
A moment with one of our residents can begin with a smile, a question, or a hand reaching gently toward a fence. It can end with someone seeing disability, difference, and farmed animals in an entirely new way.
Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary brings our mission to community events across the Louisville area. Come meet us, get to know the residents, and see what individualized care and lifelong sanctuary can look like.
We are a family-run microsanctuary in Louisville. Sanctuary visits are by appointment; public events offer another way to meet us.

A Small Sanctuary With a Mission That Travels
Our sanctuary is run from our family’s home, but the stories of our residents reach far beyond it.
At festivals, markets, and community gatherings, people have the chance to meet animals they may never have known otherwise: a sheep who moves through the world on three legs, a blind goat who recognizes familiar voices, or a resident whose care looks different from what people expect.
We share who each animal is, what makes them comfortable, and the support that helps them thrive. The best conversations often start with a simple question—and leave room for curiosity, respect, and a new understanding of what a good life can look like.
“Different Is Beautiful” becomes easier to understand when you meet someone who lives it.
What happens at an outreach event
Meet the Residents
Spend a little time with the animals who join us and learn their names, personalities, and stories. The residents who attend can vary by event and by what is best for them that day.

Take home sanctuary merchandise, share our work, or make a contribution toward food, bedding, veterinary care, and the many everyday needs of our residents.
Resident comfort guides every event. Interactions happen on their terms, and we may change plans
when weather or an animal’s needs call for it.
