Dixie

Dixie is a sweet rescue goat whose story began with one of the most unusual mysteries in Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary's history. She was found abandoned alongside her best friend, Trixie the lamb, on the side of Dixie Highway in Louisville while they were still bottle babies. Too young to survive on their own, the pair were brought to safety as the sanctuary worked with state officials through the required stray hold process before they officially became part of the Butterfly Valley family.

Dixie's journey held even more unanswered questions when the livestock identification tag she arrived wearing was traced through the Department of Agriculture. Investigators ultimately determined the tag had been fraudulently reused, leaving her true origins a mystery and highlighting the difficult realities many farm animals face before finding safety.

Today, none of that defines her. Dixie is a happy, affectionate goat who has never met a stranger and believes every human exists to hand out cuddles and scratches. Rarely far from Trixie, she spends her days following her family around the sanctuary, making it almost impossible to take a step without a tiny goat happily underfoot. Dixie is a beautiful reminder that while we may never know where a journey truly began, love has a remarkable way of writing a better ending.
