Peanut
Peanut is one of our sanctuary’s most unique and meaningful special-needs residents. Arriving at just 10 weeks old and only 9 pounds, Peanut came from a loving home that wanted to make sure they received the specialized care they might need as they grew. As an intersex goat with polled intersex syndrome, Peanut’s anatomy requires close monitoring and may bring serious medical challenges, including the possibility of needing a urethrostomy to keep them healthy and comfortable.
But Peanut is so much more than a diagnosis. Tiny, sassy, independent, and full of attitude, Peanut quickly proved that they had no interest in being underestimated. Their story represents so much of what we stand for — creating a safe, judgment-free place for animals who are different, medically complex, or considered “imperfect” by the world around them.
As a proud diversity and inclusion resident, Peanut reminds everyone that difference exists beautifully throughout nature. Their life is a powerful example that worth is not based on labels, usefulness, or fitting into anyone else’s idea of normal. Peanut is different, Peanut is loved, and Peanut belongs.
