Orville

Silkie

Chicken

Orville arrived unable to walk after losing mobility in one leg and being bullied by his flock, but within days he was standing and taking steps through patient therapy. When unusual neurological behaviors later began to progress, his veterinarian came to believe with near certainty that Marek’s disease explains his changing needs.

Life at Butterfly Valley

At Butterfly Valley, Orville has known the relief of a quiet, protected space, patient one-on-one therapy, and companionship from Caroline, who volunteered to snuggle beside him on his first day. He still loves closeness and comfort, while his environment and daily routine are adjusted around his balance, mobility, and changing neurological needs.

Orville’s Journey to Butterfly Valley

Orville arrived after losing mobility in one leg and being treated unkindly by his flock. His former caregiver had helped him stand again but recognized that he needed more time and protection than she could provide while caring for another critically injured bird. Once safe, his anxious breathing eased, he began eating and drinking, and he settled into cuddles with Hooman Mudder and his new friend Caroline.

Understanding Their Difference

Orville experiences progressive neurological changes that affect his balance, standing, and walking. His veterinarian believes with near certainty that Marek’s disease explains the progression of his condition, although no definitive laboratory or tissue confirmation has been documented.

Bio

Care That Changes

Orville’s care includes protected housing, close observation for neurological changes, hands-on mobility support, and food and water placed where he can reach them comfortably. His routine is adjusted as his abilities change, with safety, hygiene, rest, comfort, and quality of life guiding each decision.

Different is Beautiful

Orville’s worth was never measured by the steps he could take. His journey reminds us that compassionate care means celebrating progress while also meeting change with honesty, tenderness, and the promise that he will not face it alone.
