Roman

Roman was a remarkable little Boer goat whose life became a symbol of resilience, hope, and the power of community. Abandoned at just a few days old at a rescue in Missouri, Roman was born unable to properly use his back legs and needed specialized care beyond what could be provided locally. Thanks to an incredible network of volunteers, he made the journey to our sanctuary, where a new chapter of his story began.

From the moment he arrived, Roman amazed everyone around him. Within minutes of being introduced to his custom wheelchair, he was zooming around as if he had used it his entire life. He quickly became known for his joyful personality, love of sticks, endless smile, and determination to be involved in everything happening around him. Whether he was helping with chores, participating in physical therapy, attending community events, or simply greeting visitors from the doorway of his little house, Roman approached every day with enthusiasm and grace.

Though he required specialized care, diapers, therapy, and mobility support, Roman never saw himself as limited. He became a powerful ambassador for the sanctuary's mission that "Different is Beautiful," inspiring thousands of people and even earning recognition beyond the rescue community. More importantly, he became deeply loved by everyone who knew him—human and animal alike.

When Roman passed away unexpectedly after 154 days at the sanctuary, the loss was felt throughout the entire property. The silence that followed his passing was unlike anything his family had ever experienced. But Roman's legacy remains everywhere—in the friendships he built, the lives he changed, and the hope he inspired. His wheelchair may now sit empty, but the impact he made will never fade.

Roman was proof that a life does not have to be long to be extraordinary.
