Oreo

Oreo was a tiny Pygmy goat whose courageous spirit touched countless hearts during his brief time at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary. At just over a month old, he suffered a devastating spinal injury that left him unable to walk on his back legs. When his family was told he would likely need a wheelchair or face euthanasia, they searched for a place willing to fight for him—and Butterfly Valley gladly said yes.

From the moment Oreo arrived, he was surrounded by love and determined caregivers who addressed not only his spinal injury but also severe lice, gastrointestinal complications, and respiratory distress. Despite every effort, it became clear that the damage to his tiny body was far more extensive than anyone could have known. Shortly after an emergency veterinary visit, Oreo passed away peacefully in the arms of the people who had promised to do everything they could for him.

Although his time at the sanctuary lasted only a single day, Oreo knew safety, compassion, and unconditional love. His story is a reminder that rescue is not measured by how long an animal lives, but by the promise that, no matter how difficult the journey, they will never face it alone.
