MoonPie

MoonPie was a tiny special-needs goat who left an enormous impact on everyone lucky enough to know him. Born with a bilateral cleft lip, MoonPie quickly became one of the most recognizable and beloved residents at our sanctuary thanks to his unforgettable little “smirk,” dramatic personality, adorable head tilts, and endless affection for the people around him.

Despite the challenges that often come with being born different, MoonPie lived life boldly and joyfully. He strutted to his food dish like it was his own personal runway, demanded cuddles whenever possible, and approached the world with endless curiosity — including one unforgettable moment where he became fascinated with a crayfish and captured the hearts of thousands online. He was the definition of a cuddle bug and never missed an opportunity to be close to the people he loved.

In late April 2026, MoonPie passed away suddenly after developing severe respiratory distress, likely related to complications associated with aspiration or underlying congenital issues. His loss devastated the sanctuary and highlighted the heartbreaking reality of how limited emergency veterinary care options can be for farmed animals like goats.

Though his time here was far too short, MoonPie’s life was filled completely with love, safety, and compassion. He reminded the world that different is beautiful, that fragile lives still matter deeply, and that even the tiniest souls can leave the biggest holes behind when they are gone.
