Mae

Mae was a tiny Nigerian Dwarf/Pygmy mix goat whose strength far exceeded her size. Rescued alongside her sister Myrtle at just two weeks old, Mae was born with congenital limb deformities that made standing and walking incredibly difficult. While her body struggled to cooperate, her determination never wavered. Bright-eyed, alert, and full of spirit, Mae eagerly embraced every opportunity to move, proving each day that her limitations could never define her.

Mae quickly became known for her sweet but sassy personality. She loved to "chat," sought out affection, and melted into the arms of anyone holding her. Physical therapy, wheelchair sessions, and supportive care became part of her daily routine, and she approached each challenge with quiet courage. She reminded us so much of beloved residents like Tippy—not because of her differences, but because of the extraordinary light she carried.

Tragically, just two days after losing her sister, Mae passed away suddenly and peacefully with no warning. Though her time at Butterfly Valley was brief, she spent every moment surrounded by comfort, dignity, and unconditional love. Mae's story reminds us that strength is not measured by the number of steps we take, but by the courage to keep trying. Her tiny body held an enormous heart, and her memory will forever remind us that every life, no matter how short, has the power to change the world.
