Leo
Leo was a rescue goat whose life was completely rewritten by compassion. Originally raised as a 4-H meat goat, Leo was the last surviving member of a group of three goats destined for slaughter. When a kindhearted animal lover learned of his situation, they stepped in to save him and reached out to Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary so Leo could have the forever home he deserved.
From the moment Leo arrived, his goofy, joyful spirit filled the sanctuary. He was curious, playful, incredibly sweet, and always seemed to know how to make people smile on even the hardest days. No longer seen as a commodity, Leo was finally free to simply be a goat—to run, play, explore, and enjoy the second chance he had been given. Of course, Leo also became famous for repeatedly getting his horns stuck in the fence, earning him his beloved “Stick of Shame,” which he somehow managed to wear with pride.
Though Leo was with the sanctuary for only 185 days, his impact was enormous. His sudden passing left a deep ache in the hearts of everyone who loved him, but his story remains a powerful reminder that even a short life can be filled with safety, joy, and meaning. Leo’s smile, goofiness, and grateful spirit will never be forgotten.
