Gooseberry
Gooseberry was a sweet senior rescue duck whose resilience made her deeply loved at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary. Before arriving, she survived a severe goose attack that left her with a badly broken leg. Because of her age and the severity of the injury, euthanasia was recommended, but her previous caregiver refused to give up, carefully splinting and nursing her through recovery.
Though her leg healed imperfectly and left her slower than other ducks, Gooseberry still found joy in the simple things — especially bath time. Later in life, as cataracts affected her vision, she received extra support to help her eat comfortably and continue enjoying her days safely.
Gooseberry’s story was a beautiful reminder that senior animals deserve love, patience, and second chances too. She may have moved a little slower, but her spirit remained strong, and her time at the sanctuary was filled with safety, care, and the peaceful retirement she always deserved.
