Honey
Honey is a special-needs Silkie chicken whose giant fluff and even bigger personality have made him unforgettable at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary. Honey arrived at around 4 to 5 months old with a crossbeak after being picked on by the flock and living mostly alone without the extra support needed to truly thrive. What he needed most was a safe place where he would not have to fight just to exist.
Along with his unique beak, Honey came with a little weight to gain, a case of lice to treat, and one very dramatic Silkie hairdo to manage. Because his crossed beak makes eating and drinking more challenging, Honey needs a thoughtful feeding setup — and because his glorious poof gets in the way, his caretakers often have to use a ponytail holder, hair clip, or trim to help him see his food without wearing half of it.
Today, Honey is safe, loved, and full of opinions. Whether he is supervising the humans, showing off his serious floof, or proving that healing sometimes just takes the right flock, Honey is a beautiful reminder that different is beautiful.
