Louisville Animal Sanctuary Gives Paralyzed Baby Goat a Chance at Hope

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Louisville Animal Sanctuary Gives Paralyzed Baby Goat a Chance at Hope

Louisville, KY – [July 13, 2024] – The local community of Louisville is set to warmly welcome Roman, a special Boer goat with paralyzed back legs, to the compassionate care of Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary. This arrival marks the end of a heartfelt community-supported journey spanning over 700 miles from Cleveland, Missouri.

Roman is scheduled to arrive in Louisville, KY on Sunday, July 14th, after a two-day transport involving a dedicated team of four volunteer transporters. Approximately two weeks old, Roman was abandoned at the gates of GiddyUp Horse and Wildlife Rescue in Cleveland, MO. Despite his challenges, he has captured the hearts of many with his story of resilience and hope.

Tawnya Reber, founder of GiddyUp Horse and Wildlife Rescue, found Roman in a basket outside the rescue's gates with his umbilical cord still attached and paralyzed back legs. It is believed he was less than two days old when Reber found him. The dedicated team at GiddyUp provided initial care, ensuring he was fed and protected. After many other rescues and sanctuaries declined Tawnya's attempt to find a sanctuary for Roman due to being full or facing financial difficulties—a growing problem in the sanctuary community throughout the country—she heard of Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary and reached out. Recognizing his need for specialized care, Butterfly Valley agreed to take him in and provide the necessary support.

Upon arrival at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary, Roman will immediately have access to a wheelchair to help with his mobility, giving him the freedom to explore and play. About his eventual placement, Tawnya Reber expressed her excitement, saying, "I wanted him to be with other disabled goats."

Roman will make his first public appearance to celebrate his arrival at Cosmic Bird restaurant on Sunday, July 14th at approximately 2:00 PM, immediately following his arrival in Louisville.

“Butterfly Valley is not just a sanctuary; it’s a beacon of hope for animals like Roman,” said Nikki, co-founder of Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary. “We believe every animal deserves a chance to live a happy life, no matter their condition. Roman’s story is a testament to what love and community can achieve.”

Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary welcomes media representatives and the community to meet Roman at Cosmic Bird (619 Baxter Ave, Louisville, KY 40204) and experience the magic that these special animals bring into our lives.
