Myrtle

Myrtle was a gentle special-needs Nigerian Dwarf/Pygmy mix goat whose quiet spirit made her deeply loved in the short time she was here. Rescued alongside her sister Mae at just two weeks old, Myrtle arrived with challenges that were rooted deeper than what could be seen from the outside. She struggled with a lack of a typical suck reflex, suspected blindness, and neurological differences that made feeding, navigating, and coordinating her body difficult.

Despite those challenges, Myrtle was soft, trusting, and incredibly snuggly. She found comfort in being held, listening to familiar voices, and resting close to the people who loved her. Her care required syringe feedings, close monitoring, supportive supplements, and around-the-clock attention as everyone worked to meet her exactly where she was.

As Myrtle’s neurological symptoms worsened, her little body eventually became too tired to keep fighting. She passed peacefully at just four weeks old, surrounded by the love, warmth, and comfort she had known every day at the sanctuary. Though her life was brief, Myrtle mattered deeply. She reminded us that sometimes rescue is not about fixing everything, but about making sure a fragile life is safe, cherished, and never alone.
