Jack Jack

Jack Jack was a beloved Broad Breasted White turkey whose gentle spirit and enormous personality helped so many people see turkeys differently. Originally welcomed to Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary as a young turkey, Jack Jack was named in honor of the famous turkey spared by President Lincoln after his son Tad begged for his life — a fitting tribute for a bird who would go on to show just how worthy turkeys are of compassion, safety, and love.

Jack Jack was curious, social, funny, and full of personality. She strutted through the sanctuary like she owned the place, inspected everything with great seriousness, and reminded everyone she met that turkeys are not just birds in the background of a holiday meal — they are individuals with feelings, relationships, and a desire to live.

Tragically, Jack Jack’s life was cut short in a devastating accident that also took her friend George. Her loss left an enormous hole in the heart of the sanctuary, but her legacy continues every time someone looks at a turkey and sees someone, not something. She was loved, protected, and deeply cherished — and she changed hearts simply by being herself.
